India under the British rule was losing it’s identity and national ego. Noted freedom fighter Bal Gangadhar Tilak explained to suffering Indians that ‘ Freedom is our birth right and we should not allow anyone to intrude upon our country and our minds. He questioned the presence of the British in India reminding them “India is not their business and they should leave the nation” under the able guidance of Gopal Krishna Gokhale, Mahatma Gandhi became the torch bearer of the India Independence movement and under his leadership the world witnessed unique movement of Independence completely based on non – violence and human love. Mahatma Gandhi entered in the hearts and minds of Indians by his philosophical thoughts of Independence mobilized the entire country and brought the whole country under on umbrella. India today is a proud independent nation understanding it’s responsibility in maintaining world peace. Today India is heard on all the political, social and cultural platforms all over the world. The texture of Indian culture is such which inculcates a global vision in each Indian because what we are hearing today that the world is a global village, it was understood and expressed by the Indian sages in saying ‘ Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ , the whole world is a family. Towards late 90’s one such personality rose and walked on the global theatre giving answers to a large spectrum of conflict existing in human life. 

J Krishnamurti explained the nature of the problems mostly arising from human conditioning and behaviour. He was an excellent authority on all the streams of world philosophies, religions and psychology. The thought, it’s genesis, it’s movement and how it is affecting any behaviour and the universal behaviour and how to make it more productive was his core area of his teachings. He understood the suffering of people on the psycho somatic front and the conflict and chaos arising out of these. He provided very simple explanations to long standing questions facing human life. He was of the opinion that we see the problems, we face the problems and we suffer from the problem without understanding why any problem or any conflict exists. 

He explained it is only by the deep understanding of our own self that we can get answers to our problems. He stressed upon the self searching and self scanning of our mind and soul. Once we are in tune with our own selves we can bring about harmony in our lives and that also by being completely non violent. He was of the opinion human beings are cruel to themselves also because they do not understand their own nature, they want to understand their nature whereas they do not know that they themselves are the nature. He would often say that ‘ you are the nature ,nature is not something separate from you. Born in the Southern state of Tamil Nadu in India, he came in contact with prominent theosophical personalities like Annie Besant and Blavatsky. He had a deep and vast understanding of Indian scriptures, Vedas, upnishads, while in Europe in Paris particularly  he came in contact with new philosophical thoughts. He emphasized the role of logic and reasoning in decoding the various challenges facing the human behaviour. He was at a time thought and presented as the universal spiritual society but he did not accept the positions. He was the best example of a free man physically, mentally and spiritually and showed the way to fellow human beings to come out of their conditionings and to understand the real nature of their own self.

Maharana Pratap was a devout Hindu and a determined ruler. He established the law of discipline and respect for all citizens of his state. Few kingdoms remained out of his authority and one such states was Chittorgarh. Akbar wanted Maharana to accept his hegemony which the great ruler of Chittorgarh declined defiantly. He rather dared to challenge the mighty Mughal army which resulted in a fiercy battle of the Valley of Turmeric called the ‘ Haldighati’ which took place in the year 1576. Akbar’s side was led by the crown prince Salim later to be known as Jahangir. Maharana had on his side a very patriotic, commited and courageous army of Rajputs. He was supported by the chiefs of the ‘Bheel’ tribe who gathered to defeat the Mughals with their bows and arrows, axes and spears at the Turmeric Valley. Indian history is filled with the stories of this historic battle where the Mughal army could not win Mewar from Maharana Pratap Singh. In fact if destiny would not have been on the side of Mughal Army, Maharana Pratap Singh’s would have pierced the chest of Crown Prince Salim with his invincible spear. This historic spear of great patriotic relevance is at display even today at the Udaipur City Palace Museum.

In this dance form, the movements of the feet and the hands are done according to the rhythm and the beat.

Another attraction of this dance is the eye - movement of the dancers. The eyes are decorated with the Kaajal so that the movements and gestures can be properly observed as the dancers communicate with the audience through their eyes. The dancing costumes vary from dancer to dancer.  The male dancers generally wear ‘Kurta – Pyjama’ , Pyjama  is a type of a trouser and the Pyjama is a long robe decorated with beautiful embroidery. The female dancers wear a ‘Saree’ or a ‘ Churidar Pyjama’.  Different type of Jewels and ornaments become part of the dressing style of the dancer. In the Hindu scriptures, dancing has been described an important of the Bhakti movement or one of the ways to please the God and Kathak is one such dance form through which the devotees show their devotion and love for the God.
